FLORENCE – The Music Preservation Society, Inc. (MPS) is officially inviting artists
and designers to submit their original work for the W.C. Handy Music Festival 2026
Design Competition.
As one of the premier music events in the Southeast, the W.C. Handy Music Festival
honors the legacy of Florence native William Christopher Handy, the “Father of the
Blues.” The winning artwork will become the “face” of the 2026 festival, featured on
official T-shirts, posters, memorabilia, and across regional advertising.
The selected artist will receive a $500 prize and the distinction of having their work
represent a festival recognized as a Top Ten Event in Alabama and a three-time Cultural
Olympiad Designee.
Submission Highlights:
Theme: Designs should reflect the spirit of the festival, which celebrates a wide
range of music from spirituals to jazz and blues to country and rock’n’roll.
Requirements: All entries must be original, copyright-free, and include the
festival name, dates (July 15-26, 2026), and location (The Shoals, Alabama).
Deadline: Entries must be received by May 22, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
