Mr. W.A. Hardiman age 96 of Athens, AL passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020 at his home. Mr. Hardiman was born on July 29, 1924 in Athens, AL to Clyde Franklin Hardiman and Nannie Crow Hardiman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Hardiman; granddaughter, Brandi Hopper; brother, C.F. Hardiman; sister, Christine DeCarlo; half-sister, Louise Lemmond.
Mr. Hardiman is survived by his wife of 73 years, Margie Campbell Hardiman of Athens, AL; children, Joyce Hopper (Edward) of Athens, AL, Gerald Hardiman of White House, TN, Janet Wilkinson (Ray) of Trinity, AL and Joey Hardiman (Donna) of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Alicia Hopper of Athens, AL, Matthew Hardiman of Atlanta, GA, Joshua Hardiman of Dallas, TX, Sara Hardiman of Huntsville, AL, Zackary Hardiman of Franklin, TN, Austin Hardiman of Franklin, TN, Blake Haggermaker of Huntsville, AL, Bentley Haggermaker of Trinity, AL and Brooklyn Haggermaker of New Hope, AL; brother, Mahlon Hardiman of Ardmore, AL; niece, Charlotte Turner and great-nephew, Dennis Turner of Athens, AL.
Mr. Hardiman loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a devout member of New Oakland Baptist Church and a member of The American Legion for 35 years. Mr. Hardiman was a firefighter for 19 years and owned and operated Hardiman’s Fire Extinguisher Sales and Service Inc. He enjoyed working with cattle and was a member of the Alabama Limestone Cattleman Association.
Mr. Hardiman was a World War II Veteran serving in the U. S. Navy from May of 1944 to February of 1946. He was an S1/C- Seaman First Class. Mr. Hardiman was awarded the Bronze Service Star, Silver Service Star and 2 Battle Stars for World War II Service.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-12:50 on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. The service will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel with Bro. Dwight Raburn, Frankie Murphy and Anthony Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Ray Wilkinson, Zack Hardiman, Josh Hardiman, Sara Hardiman, Jimmy Rogers and Matthew Hardiman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Limestone County.
