Funeral Services for Mrs. Vonda Monroe, age 53 of Ashland, will be held Friday, February 17, 2023 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Chris Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Liberty Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Monroe passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the UAB Hospital- Pallative Care. She was born in the Sand Mountain community and lived there most of her teenage life before settling in Clay County. She worked at Wellborn Cabinets in the Paint Department, as well at Truwood Cabinets and the Amico gas station in Goodwater. Mrs. Monroe was described as a strong-willed, God Fearing Woman who loved her children and grandchildren fiercely. She was a Spitfire, sometimes stubborn, but loved her family passionately. Mrs. Monroe enjoyed reading her bible, dancing and singing.
Mrs. Monroe is survived by her son, Dustin Monroe (Kristin) of Ashland; son in love, Matthew Riley (Kelly) of Goodwater; her grandchildren: Autumn Hurt, Riley and Maddie Monroe, and Emily and Elaina Riley; her sisters: Mary Dawson (Sharmon) and Olivia Shealey (Gregory Holloway), both of goodwater; her aunt, Patsy Brown of Sand Mountain; her cousins: Nathan Paschal of Sylacauga, and Kristy Wilson (Bradley) of Sand Mountain, plus other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Gordan Woodfin and Margaret Ann Tripp Woodfin; one infant son; her grandson in love, Levi Riley; two brothers, James and Bryce Paschal.
Dustin Monroe, Matthew Riley, Nathan Paschal, Arthur Jones, Tyler Minter, Shane Phillips, Bradley Wilson, and Michael Kingrey will serve as pallbearers.
Her visitation will take place on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made towards funeral expenses.
