Volis Latrell Buckelew – Obituary

 Mr. Volis BuckelewVolis Latrell Buckelew, 93, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019.

He was born in Horton, Alabama and served overseas in the Army during World War II. He was a graduate of Jacksonville State University and Vanderbilt’s Peabody College. He taught at Sardis High School and Marshall County High School (Guntersville). He was a NASA aerospace engineer for the Apollo moon landing program and other projects for over 30 years. He was an active member of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Horton, AL for over 65 years.

Preceded in death are his wife of 62 years, Ivalene Moultrie Buckelew, his daughter Jan Hyatt, brother and sister-in-law, Caldwell and Ivo Buckelew, sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Marvin Breedwell, sister Mozelle Self, sister and brother-in law, Avis and Clinton Jones, brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Fern Buckelew, and his parents, Joel George Buckelew and Sarah Savannah Buckelew. He is survived by his sons, John Buckelew of Albertville, and Mark Buckelew and Matt Buckelew of Madison AL; son-in-law Don Hyatt of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Jared (Katie) and Austin (Chelsea) Hyatt, Sarah and Kayla Buckelew; great-granddaughter Ansley Hyatt; brother Don (Faye) Buckelew, brother-in-law Lewie Self, and sister-in-law Betty Buckelew.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan 4th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Adams Brown Funeral Home in Albertville. The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan 5th at First Baptist Church in Albertville, followed by burial in Memory Hill Cemetery.
