Virginia Baughman Moreland Profile Photo Virginia Smith Baughman Moreland, 90, known to many as “Granny” passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center—Gilmore in Amory.  Born in Saltillo on October 30, 1933, she was a daughter to Wesley and Clester Braden Smith.  She attended school in Saltillo and met and later married Cliff Baughman on November 4, 1951.  They moved to Amory where she worked for Dr. Roger Ratliff until her retirement in 2004.  She became a widow in 1996 and she would eventually marry Richard Moreland with whom she loved to travel.  She loved watching her children play ball and she was an avid Ole Miss fan.  She loved her childhood stories, and she was a member of the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Hatley.

Funeral services will at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Elder Tim Cunningham officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hatley Cemetery.

She is survived by her son, Mike Baughman (Beverly) of Amory; her daughter, Dianne Newsom of Pontotoc; brother-in-law, Wayne Tackett of Smithville; one sister, Frances Daughtery of Mantachie; sister-in-law, Delores Smith of Tupelo; grandchildren, Shani Sharp (Kenny), Travia Moss (C.J.), Rod Newsom (Amy), Roger Newsom (Samantha), Michelle Glasgow (Alex), Chris Baughman (Whitney), and Bret Baughman (Patty); great grandchildren, Michael, McKenzie, Gracie, Jonah, Nathan, Hannah, Maddie, Zoe, Kayson, Jude, A.V., Alyssa, Lily, Abigail, Turner, and Wesley; great gret grandchildren, Scarlett, Olivia, and Elaina, and Joey; special friends, Pam Gray, and Kerry and Joyce Ellward.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; grandson, Wesley Michael Baughman; sisters, Gladys Turner and Opal Patton; and brothers, Wesley Smith, Jr., Billy Ray Smith, Charles Smith, J.V. Smith, Merle Smith; and son-in-law, Rodney Newsom.

Pallbearers will be Rod Newsom, Roger Newsom, C.J Moss, Kayson Newsom, Chris Baughman, Bret Baughman, and Alex Glasgow.

Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
