Virginia Croom was born July 7, 1935 to the late Blanch Warren Wallace and the late Mr. Oscar Southard Sr. in Red Bay, Alabama.
She was called home by the Lord Saturday, May 2, 2015 while at Helen Keller Hospital.
She was the third of three children who preceded her in death, late brother Oscar Southard Jr. and the late Gertie Mae Abernathy.
Virginia was devoted to the LOVE of her life James H. Croom Sr. and they shared 60 years of a strong, loving and committed union in which they had 5 wonderful children.
She taught her children to be respectful, giving and kind. We have learned many life lessons from our mother.Momma’s motto to us was:“Even when times are hard NEVER give up!”
Virginia attended nursing school and graduated as a registered nurse while she had 3 children in college. She worked for many years at Helen Keller Hospital as well as Humana Hospital formerly known as Shoals Hospital. She served as an exemplary nurse in the nursing profession where she highly respected as a dedicated and proficient nurse. She loved people and it showed through the care of her patients.
She confessed Christ at an early age and has loved God all her life. She not only loved God but loved her church as well. She was active as a mother of the church, choir member and Sunday school teacher. If there was a need, you could count on our mom! Her heart was huge and she was greatly loved!
She leaves to cherish her everlasting memories to her husband James H. Croom Sr., daughters Nena( Vernita) Croom Christmas(Atlanta, GA) , Valerie Sparks(Groesbeck, TX)and three sons James H. Croom Jr. (Huntsville, AL), the late Sidney Croom and Randall Croom (Tuscumbia, AL).
