Virginia Mae Cavender, age 91, of the Morgan City community, passed away peacefully at Diversicare of Arab early Sunday morning, May 24, 2026. Born in Madison County, Alabama, on February 19, 1935, Virginia was the daughter of Richard W. Moore and Icie E. Sharp Moore.
Virginia was a devoted Christian woman who dearly loved the Lord, her family, and her church family. As a faithful pastor’s wife, she lovingly supported her husband, Reverend Bill Cavender (DOD 2013), throughout his ministry while also serving the congregation of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Pleasant Valley Baptist Church for more than 25 years. She was a blessing to many and will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and compassion. Always willing to work quietly behind the scenes, Virginia touched countless lives with her gentle spirit and caring heart. She was also an avid reader, a talented quilter, and in her younger years created beautiful ceramic works of art.
Virginia leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her son, Richard W. Cavender (Dixie); her daughters, Donna C. Smith (Samuel) and Vickie L. Brand (Dave); her brother, Daniel Moore (Diane); seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Billy Ray Cavender; her parents, Richard and Icie Moore; and her sister, Deloris Payne.
A private family service is planned. The family deeply appreciates all those who have shared their love, kindness, and support over the years. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
