Virginia Joan Wright Pounders, 71, of Cherokee was born on March 5, 1947 and went to meet her Lord and loved ones that went ahead of her on Friday, March 23, 2018. Visitation will be Sunday, March 25th from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. The funeral service will be Monday, March 26th at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Perry Murphy and Bro. Jackie Pittman officiating. Burial will follow at Morris Hill Cemetery.
Joan loved life and was a ray of sunshine to all that knew her. She was a member of Airport Missionary Baptist Church where she was a pianist.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Ida Mae Wright and brothers-in-law, Bobby Cosby and Phillip Pounders.
Joan is survived by her husband of 52 years, Michael Pounders; daughters, Pamela Welborn and Devona Denton (Roger); grandchildren, Alanna Posey and Jordan Denton; great-grandchildren, Caleb Denton and Lainey Welborn; brother, Carlile Wright (Bernice); sisters, Martha Murphy (Terry) and Geneva Henderson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Jordan Denton, Mark Cosby, Peyton Swinney, Mark Cosby, Jr, Matt Cosby and Fred L. Kimbrough.
The family expresses special thanks to Baptist Cancer Center, Dr. Drew S. Dill and Aaron Harris, NP of Collierville, TN and their staffs, and to the staff of North Alabama Hospice.
