Virginia Herron Lay (Tency), age 88 of the Old Prospect Community went home to be with the Lord on February 17, 2025.
She was a member of Sargossa Baptist Church for many years. She was a woman of unwavering faith. She worshiped and served the Lord by teaching Sunday School, leading in Vacation Bible School, singing in the choir, and serving in various other ways. Her compassion, strength, and faith in God inspired everyone she knew. She was also a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel. Burial will be at Old Prospect Cemetery. Eric Sorrell will officiate.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Roy Lay Jr., father Ed Herron, mother Dolly Herron, sister’s Arlene Bordon, Betty Gober, Maxine Herron, and brother James Herron.
She is survived by her sons David (Vickie) and James (Kim), daughter Luann Ruth (Chris), grandchildren Amandelyn Sorrell (Eric), Kendall Lay, Colby Lay, and Hannah Lay, six great grandchildren and sisters Jo Woods, Peggy Marshall, and Debra Pugh.
