Virginia H. Appling – Obituary

virginiaVirginia H. Appling, 85, and 21 year resident of Irving, died on April 26, 2014. She was born in Spartanburg, North Carolina on March 19, 1929 to F.O. Hand and Ruby Wilson Hand and went on to enjoy a career in education as an elementary teacher. Virginia had previously resided in Decatur and retired in 1987 after teaching for 20 years. Along with being a teacher, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Virginia was also an active member of Unity Church in Irving and volunteered her time and talents to Baylor Medical Center of Irving. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Marvin “Joe” Appling Jr. and her son, Charles Daniel Appling, her sister, Betty Gintell and her parents. Virginia will be greatly missed by her son, Tom Appling and his wife, Jan, of Hartselle; daughter, Cathy Todd and husband, Mike, of Irving; granddaughter, Rachel Appling of Longmont, CO; grandson, David Appling of Hartselle; granddaughter, Ashley Todd of Irving; Vicki Middleton and husband, Ben, of The Colony and great-grandson, Aeddan Appling of Longmont, CO. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Irving with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. just prior to the service. A private family interment will take place in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA.
