VirginiaFuneral services for Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth Houston, age, 95, are scheduled for 1 PM on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in the Chapel of Pafford Funeral Home with Bro. Leon Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Mrs. Houston passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013 in Lexington, TN. Born, September 15, 1917 in Lexington, to the late David Eugene and Zilla Beatrice Young Scott. Mrs. Houston was retired teacher of Henderson County Teacher’s Association. Mrs. Houston was past president and vice president of Delta Kappa Gamma, attended Sewanee State Convention. Mrs. Houston taught school for 31 years, 20 of those years at Caywood. She retired from TEA (Tenn. Education Association), and NEA (National Educational Association). She was a Sunday school teacher at Shady Grove and a member of United Methodist Women. She taught at Smith School, Sand Ridge School, and Lexington City School. Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her husband, Red Houston, two brothers, Eugene and John D. Scott, and one sister, Beckie Dean. Survivors include, daughters, Kay (George) Simpson and Amy (Lee) Sanders, sister-in-law, Clara Scott., two grandchildren, Noah(Sherryl) Sanders and Stefani Sanders, and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Raushenberger and Tagen Sanders, and also several nieces and nephews.
