Virginia Couch “Ginger” Harlan Profile Photo Virginia Couch “Ginger” Harlan passed away November 7th, 2024 at the Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN.

Ginger was the daughter of Rebecca Louise Wallace Couch and James Cummins Couch, Sr. and beloved mother of Holly Armstrong Conners (Gilly), Virginia Helen “Hynie” Armstrong McDowell (Dave), and the late Maury Franklin Armstrong, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband A.C. Harlan. She is also preceded in death by her three loving siblings; James Cummins Couch, Jr., Matilda Louise Beaird, and her twin, Wallace ”Wally” Bell Couch, Sr.

Ginger graduated from Haylong High School of Mt. Pleasant in 1961 and attended Florida Southern College. One of her greatest joys in life was being “Gigi” to her eight grandchildren and being Mom to her pup, Ollie. Some of her most special memories were spent traveling to the beach with her family and seeing movies with A.C. Her lifelong faith was brought to light during a pilgrimage trip to Israel in 2022 with her two daughters. She created many lifelong friendships through teaching water aerobics at the YMCA and MuleTown Rec. Center, playing bridge, and more recently Mahjong. Many people remember her cruising around town in her red VW bug.

Ginger was born February 5, 1943 in Nashville, TN. She grew up in Mt. Pleasant, spending time at her family’s dime store, Couch’s 5 & 10 and attending dances at Columbia Military Academy “CMA.” There is comfort in knowing she reunited with her mother 30 years to the day of her mother’s passing on November 7th, 1994.

A service will be held at noon at Mt. Pleasant First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, TN on Wednesday, November 13th. The family will receive guests before the service starting at 9:30 am. In Lieu of Flowers, the family request donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Cornerstone Covenant Church, Columbia, TN.
