Mrs. Virginia C. Murphree passed away November 4, 2016 after a brief illness. She was born April 2, 1924 in Decatur to the late Fred Bailey and Dona Leeman Bailey.
Mrs. Murphree graduated from Howard College in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She was married to William D. Murphree on March 2, 1946 in Hartselle after his return from military service during the war. She then taught English in the College of Commerce at the University of Alabama while he was in school there. She was later a homemaker where she was busy raising two children and active in service at the First Baptist Church of Huntsville. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband William D. Murphree.
She is survived by her daughter Claire M. Sloan (Alex); her son, William D. Murphree, Jr.; and her grandchildren, Matthew Sloan (Sarah Stuart), and Steven Sloan (Kathy).
Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon at First Baptist Church in Huntsville with services following. Burial will be at Decatur City Cemetery.
