Virginia Uptain Bowers Virginia Bowers Uptain, age 101, of Huntsville passed away on Monday, November 30th. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Thomas Bowers, her husband of 15 years, Virgil J. Uptain, and her step-son, Virgil C. Uptain and his wife, Anne. She is survived by her step-son, Sam Uptain (Genie); step-grandsons, Scott Uptain (Rochelle), Kevin Uptain (Christina), Andy Uptain (Wanda), and Ed Uptain (Jennifer); eight step-great-grandsons; one niece; one nephew; four great-nieces; and one great-nephew.

Virginia retired from The Huntsville Times as Director of National Advertising after 31 years of newspaper service. She served as President of the Huntsville Pilot Club twice and as a chaplain of Pilot International.

Virginia had a deep abiding faith in God and served as a deacon in Central Presbyterian Church teaching Sunday school as well as Bible studies among many other things before becoming disabled by a stroke in 2004.

There will be a private graveside service for family at Maple Hill Cemetery with Dr. Randall Jenkins officiating
