It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Virgil Larry Stockman on November 2, 2025, at the age of 72.

Larry loved the Lord and his family. He also loved all animals and going on cruises through the Caribbean (24 in total).

Larry was obsessed with Alabama football. He also enjoyed listening to high school basketball on the radio, especially when Sand Mountain Teams were playing.

Larry served as the mayor of Dutton, AL from October 1988 through September 1992.  He retired from the Huntsville Times after working there for 20 years. He then opened his own Landscape and Lawn Maintenance business.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter Julie Howard (Darwin)l his stepson, Steven Wiggill (Lisa); stepdaughter, Cristine Long; grandsons, Dylan Howard and Luke Wiggill; sisters, Barbara Kirby (Willis), Sandy Berry (Chris) and Tangie Barnett (Don); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 12 to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with the funeral immediately following in the chapel. Interment will be at Valhalla Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, which is a no kill shelter (https://www.ghhs.org).
