Virgie Hacker, age 87 of Smithville TN passed away into the arms of her Lord on Thursday morning, May 28, 2026, at her residence. She was born May 9, 1939, to her late parents Lewis and Grace Reed. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband David Hacker; son Reed Hacker; sister Louise McKay, and four brothers Lewis Reed Jr., Larry Reed, Clifton Reed, and Clarence Reed; her mother-in-law and father-in-law Mable and August Hacker. Mrs. Hacker was a retired seamstress. When her children were young, she was active in both the girl scouts and boy scouts supporting her children. As her husband was in the military and they moved all over the United States, they would be active in their church wherever they were based. She served as Sunday School Superintendent in several churches they attended. In later years, she and her husband went back to college and became Emergency Medical Techs. They served on a volunteer ambulance in the small town where they lived. Being an EMT gave Virgie a great deal of fulfillment. She is survived by daughter Vanessa (Mike) Wolverton of Smithville TN; sons David Hacker II of Little River SC; Bruce (Sherry) Hacker of Greenville, MI; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; sister Louella Reed of Conroe, TX; sisters-in-law Lynn Reed of Cadiz, KY and Kathy Souchek of Parker, CO. As well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday, June 4, 2026, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 11 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Hacker family.
