Virgie Emerson James, 97, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday. Virgie was very active in the POW/MIA issue. Her son, Captain Samuel Larry James was missing in Action/Prisoner of War since April 18, 1973. Virgie was a Proverbs 31 woman. She loved her family and friends. Virgie loved to help others. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Edward James, and granddaughter, Julie White Sfakianos.
Survivors include son, Captain Samuel Larry James; daughter, Barbara White and husband, Bob, of Huntsville; granddaughters, Melissa Stringer and husband, Charles, of Little Rock, AR, and Lori Beth White and husband, Ryan, of New York City; great-granddaughters, Michelle Sfakianos and her father, Nick, of Birmingham, AL; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends; and beloved granddogs.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 18 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel with the Rev. Dean Johnson officiating.
