Violet McDaniel Jones was born in Morgan County, Alabama, on August 16, 1924. She came to the Shoals area to work for TVA and there she met Thomas R. Jones, and they would marry in her hometown of Arab on September 2, 1946. Eventually Tom left his job with TVA to go into the insurance business and would found Tom Jones Insurance in Tuscumbia. Violet was truly his partner in every way and played a crucial role behind the scenes in the success of the business.
Tom and Violet lived in Sheffield from 1948 until Tom’s death in 2010. In 2011 Violet moved to Spring Hill, Tennessee, to be near her son and his wife. On September 2, 2015, on the 69th anniversary of her wedding, she died in Franklin, Tennessee.
Violet was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and disciple of Jesus. She was known for her organization, thoughtfulness, love, kindness, generosity and spirituality. She was a life-long member of the church of Christ and part of the Pacesetter Ministry of the Greater Nashville Church for the last four years. She was a generous supporter of many Christian causes. She enjoyed reading the Bible and other spiritual books, listening to hymns, and watching the PGA and Alabama football.
Violet is survived by her son, Thomas A. Jones; her daughter-in-law, Sheila Presley Jones; three granddaughters: Amy Black, Bethany Smith and Corrie Jones; four sisters: Tula Romine, Bonnie Wiekamp, Barbara Riddick and Deloris Spivy; a sister-in-law, Edith McDaniel; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Beat of Life (thebeatoflife.org), a non-profit organization that Violet supported.
A celebration of Violet’s life will be led by the family at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia on Saturday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
