Vincent Anthony Dauro, Sr., 89, died Tuesday. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Genevieve “Jenny” Dauro, and his daughter Catherine Nolen. He is survived by his two sons, Jay Charles Dauro (Sarah), and Vincent Anthony Dauro, Jr. (Leighanne); sister Rita Dauro Gibson, granddaughters Amelie Downing (Melinda), Alisa Dauro Clark (Kacey) and Moriah Powers; grandson Adam Dauro (Lauren); and great-grandsons Gregory Dauro, and Devin Wilson.
Vince was born in Gulfport, Mississippi. He enlisted in the Navy in 1946, and during his career he flew over 280 different aircraft of 11 different types. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in math and physics from the University of Mississippi, and a Masters in Mathematics from the University of Florida. He left the Navy in 1960 as a Lieutenant, and subsequently moved to Huntsville with his family, working in support of space programs from Gemini to the Shuttle. His specialty was computer trajectory simulation, and he worked on many NASA flights, as well as on research for future space missions. Vince loved boating, organ music and playing cards. He was a member and past Commander of the Huntsville Power Squadron. He was active in the National Space Society as well as the Navy’s Flying Midshipmen Association. His two sons were with him when he passed away, and he will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 from 12:30 – 1:30 pm at Laughlin Service Funeral Home followed by the funeral service. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
