Villa Bell Peppers Watson, a lifelong resident of Boaz, Alabama, died peacefully on October 24, 2020 at the age of 96 in Chattanooga, Tn.
She is survived by 3 grandchildren: Tracy Watson Sherrer (Scott), Tony Watson, and Stephen Watson (Leah); three great grandchildren: Alex Bright, Douglas Bright (Sarah Deptula) , and Ben Watson (Kayra) ; one brother, Cecil Peppers (Joyce), and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Fred Lee Watson, her son, Billy Wayne Watson, daughter-in-law, Judy Carroll Watson, her sister, Rilla Peppers Watson, and brothers: Cleophus Peppers, Cohen Peppers, Herman Peppers, Reverend Hershell Peppers, and Thurman Peppers. Her sister, Sue Nell Peppers Green, who was not only her sibling, but also her closest friend and confidante throughout their lives, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at her home the day after Villa passed.
Villa was born December 27, 1923, one of nine siblings born to William Riley and Minnie Bell Peppers in Phil Campbell, AL. She married Fred Watson when she was 18 years old and they relocated to the Boaz, AL area in the 1940’s. Fred built their home there with his two hands, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Fred and Villa raised their son there, and also took upon themselves and did an exemplary job of raising two of their grandchildren, Tracy and Tony, who were left to their care. Villa also nurtured and helped to raise her great-grandsons, Alex and Douglas Bright. Villa’s greatest love and passion was her home and her family. She worked briefly in the cotton mill in Boaz, and then as a floral designer, but being a homemaker, wife, and mother was her true calling. She loved to cook and try new recipes. Her fried peach pies and chicken dressing were legendary. She loved her flowers and gardening. Villa was a true Southern Belle: soft spoken, genteel, ladylike, and always kind. She took pride in her appearance and loved to dress fashionably. She was a skilled seamstress and made many of hers and her grandchildren’s clothes by hand. She had a strong faith in God, a steadfast moral compass, and always strived to live her life and treat others as Jesus would have. She was a member of Copeland Gap Baptist Church.
Since Villa and Sue walked hand in hand through this entire earthly life together, our families find it very fitting to hold joint funerary services for Villa and her sister, Sue Nell Green.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Albertville Memorial Chapel , 5011 US Hwy 431 South, Albertville, AL 35950.
Family visitation/ viewing will be from 12 noon to 1 PM (CST), general visitation from 1 PM-2 PM; memorial service will be at 2 PM in the chapel. Burial services will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz, AL.
If you choose to send flowers, send them on, and make them pink! Nothing would have pleased Villa more. She would have stopped and smelled each rose, just like she did in this life.
