Victoria Elizabeth Rutledge Hereth passed into glory on October 5 after a short and mercifully painless battle with brain cancer. Vicky was born in Nashville, Tennessee, but spent most of her life in Huntsville, Alabama. As a child, Vicky treasured many adventures with her family, father, Dr. James Warren Rutledge; mother, Elizabeth Robertson Rutledge; and four siblings, Warren, Mark, Jack and Mimi. Her family trips to the Smoky Mountains and symphonies at the Atlanta Opera House and Brevard Music Center in North Carolina shaped her love for both music and nature – two passions she shared with her beloved father who surely welcomed her into heaven with singing on October 5.
Later she was a cheerleader at Huntsville High School, then went on to graduate from University of Alabama, Huntsville with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Nursing would become a passion that she would carry for the rest of her life. She spent 20 years caring for mothers and babies at Huntsville Hospital, serving as an RN in Mother-Baby, Labor and Delivery, and High-Risk Antepartum.
Another great joy of her life was motherhood. She was a wonderful mother and enjoyed her two children endlessly, Rob Hereth, and Holly Daws (Hereth). Later in life she was a devoted member at Central Seventh Day Adventist Church, a private duty nurse, a grandmother, and a precious friend to many church members, neighbors, co-workers, and more.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Vicky was her faith. She was a tree planted by streams of living water (Psalm 1), marked by unshakable faith until the very end. While missed dearly on this earth, she is fully at rest with her savior Jesus.
She is survived by her son, Robert “Rob” Hereth; daughter, Holly Daws; son-in-law, Chase Daws; and grandchildren, Gabriel “Gabe” Daws, Robert “Bo” Daws, and Griffin “Griffey” Daws.
Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 12 noon in Maple Hill Cemetery.
