Vic Sherrill, son of Sam “Skip” Sherrill and Dorothy “Dot” Sherrill, of Decatur, passed away in Mobile on May 26. Funeral services were held in the chapel of the Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on May 29, 2015. Interment in Mobile Memorial Gardens. He was preceded in death by his father, Sam “Skip” Sherrill, of Decatur. He is survived by his wife, Becky, of Mobile; his mother, Dot, of Decatur; sister, Kathy Lucia (Michael), of Phoenix, Arizona; nephew, Phillip Lucia (Brittany); niece, Mandy Lucia; great-nephew, Luke Lucia; and other relatives.
Vic was christened in the Methodist Church in Gibson, Tennessee, joined the Presbyterian church in Decatur where he worked with the young people in Pryor Chapel. He attended Walter Jackson Elementary School, Junior High in Decatur, and graduated from Decatur High School. He was a Boy Scout and became an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a member of the High School Golf Team and earned many trophies. On a Golf Outing to Mobile, he became interested in the University of South Alabama, and attended school there after high school graduation. He was president of Theta XI Fraternity and a charter member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He became interested in automobile sales and was often awarded Salesman of the Year. He was in the hardware business in Pascagoula, Mississippi, until the long commute from his home in Mobile encouraged him to accept employment with Lowe’s in Mobile, where he worked until his death. His favorite pastimes were golf and fishing, and he excelled in both. He had planned to renew his relationship with the Boy Scouts as a leader, but before he could, the Lord called him home.
