Vernon T. Bush, 83, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 17th. Vernon was born in Pinola, Mississippi and after graduating from high school, enlisted in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957 serving as Sergeant Tank Commander in the 73rd Tank BN 7th ID in Korea and stateside. He married Lola Dean Shotts of Cato, Mississippi on Christmas Day, 1958.
Vernon was graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, School of Engineering, from Mississippi State University in 1961 and worked for Thiokol Corporation in Huntsville, retiring as the General Manager in late 1996.
Vernon was a man of many hobbies ranging from archeology, fishing, taxidermy, restoration of early model Mustangs, and propagation of native azaleas. His volunteer work over the years at Jackson County Park in Scottsboro, Alabama and Huntsville Botanical Garden led to his vision of creating native azalea trails bearing his name that can be enjoyed by the public for many years to come.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Billy, Elijah, Gerald, Charles, Joe, and sister, Doris. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dean Bush; son, Randy Bush of Huntsville, Alabama and wife, Jane; step-grandsons, Will and Jake; son, Keith Bush of Nashville, Tennessee; foster daughter, Faye Boyd of Neel, Alabama and husband, Dale, and their children, Scott, Shane, Anita and Jason; and sister, Barbara Bush of Picayune, Mississippi.
