Vernon Ray Johnson Sr., age 90, of Cedar Hill, passed away Friday, January 20, 2023 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Tuesday, January 24, 2023 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Keith Howell officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 9am Wednesday, January 25, 2023 in the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with Christopher Hunter, Cory Hunter, Jimmy Hunter, Bradley Robinson, Joshua Graves and Martin Pruett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Johnson, Tony Johnson, Edwin Plush, Ron Bradshaw and BJ Lance.
The family will receive friends from 4-8pm Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Johnson was born September 30, 1932 in Joelton, TN to the late Robert and Ethel Mary Krantz Johnson. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a Mason and Shriner, and member of the Eastern Star, American Legion Post 105, and Coopertown Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Ray Johnson Jr.; sister, Ernestine Johnson; and a brother, Jimmy Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Celean Davidson Johnson; daughters, Karen Edwards and Celeste (Jimmy) Hunter; 4 grandchildren, Toni Graves, Kristie Farrell, Cory Hunter and Christopher Hunter; 6 great grandchildren, Joshua Graves Jr., Nicholas Graves, Owen Hunter, Brittney McKin, Cody Farrell and Zachery Farrell; brothers, Harold (Jean) Johnson and Tony Johnson.
Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of these arrangements.
