Vernon Hadaway, 86, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014 at his home. He was born December 18, 1927 in Smithville, MS and then moved to Zion, IL in the mid 50’s while serving in the Army. He retired from the Army in 1969 after 21 years of highly decorated service in various places including the Korean Conflict. Vernon was a long time member of Zion Church of God. He retired from International Harvester and the Waukegan Post Office and he worked for Selective Service at Great Lakes. He was a member of Zion-Benton American Legion and Winthrop Harbor V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Edna Hadaway of Zion, IL, one son Nelson Lee (Stephane) Hadaway of Cartersville GA, nephew, Rev. Davis ( Kathy) Carothers, Jr.,; and nieces Kay (Rev. Roger) Pitt, Nancy (Danny) Murphy, Sherry Hadaway, and Diane (Jerry) Wiese.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Douglas (Late Irene) (Late Teri) Hadaway, one sister Doris Jo (Late D.R.) Carothers; and his parents Grady and Geraldine Hadaway
