Vernon Craig “Ole Vern” Killian – Obituary

VernVernon Craig “Ole Vern” Killian, age 70, of Sheffield, died Monday, June 17, 2013. Visitation will be Thursday, 1-3 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia. His funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Bubba Massey and David Lee officiating. Burial will be in Shoals Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Killian was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia and was an electrician lineman and was retired from Sheffield Utilities after thirty years of service. He was a member of Electrical Workers Union 558, and the Masonic Lodge, Tuscumbia. He was preceded in death by his father L. V. Killian; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Hershel Craig and Mr. & Mrs. L. V. Killian all of Birmingham.

He is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Judy Killian; mother, Sarah Elizabeth Killian of Sheffield; sons, Vernon Heath Killian, Steven Chad Killian and wife LeeAnn; sister, Patricia Kay West and husband Bill; four granddaughters, Danielle Cole, Ashlyn, Makayla, and Hollan Killian.

Pallbearers are Billy West, Alan Goins, Steven West, Jim Benton, Lynn Abernathy, Jack Frost, Charlie Hovater and Ronnie James.

Honorary Pallbearers are Walter Glenn, Glenn MCann, Danny Seahorn, Kerry Gilbert, Wade Baker, Gary Monroe, Buddy Austin, Ronnie Crouch, Lester Cunningham, Mike Holland, Terry Peebles, Steve Clark and Bill and Max Richardson.

Mr. Killian’s family would especially like to thank all his Hospice nurses: Ann, Christy, Amy, Ashley, Sharon all of Amedisys Hospice; and Kim Allen of Helen Keller ER for all their help. And also thank you for all the prayers, during our time of sorrow.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Parkinson’s of the Shoals, Amedisys Hospice of the Shoals or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital of Memphis, TN.
