Vernon Coats, 92, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, at his residence. He was born in Belgreen, Alabama and worked as a furnace operator with U.S. Reduction. He was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church, Vina, Alabama.

Services will be today at noon at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Alabama, with Brother Bobby Massey officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery, Vina, Alabama. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Alabama, will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 68 years, Everlean Coats, Vina, Alabama; four children, Joyce Cummings (Edward), Sue Raper (Gary), and Ricky Coats (Myra), all of Vina, Alabama, and Bruce Coats (Patsy), Belmont, Mississippi; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shellie Scott, Ruby Honeycutt, and Dorothy Rollins; and a host of nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, Obe Dith Coats and Mattie Jane Bonds Coats; one grandchild, Rita Cummings; one great-grandchild, Lizabeth Coats; and brothers and sisters, LoraBell Holcomb, Ardie Dell Gober, Delmar Cantrell, Avis Coats, Ollie Gober, Betty Hester, Hettie Driskell, Othar Coats, Loyd Coats, and Arnice Coats.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons Greg Cummings, Dewayne Raper, Zakary Coats, Chase Coats, Josh Coats, and Austin Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Saturday dominos players.

Visitation was Monday, Nov. 7, 6-9 p.m., at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Alabama.
