Verna Lancaster, age 82, of Susan Moore the Friday’s Crossing Community, Alabama, passed away on January 31, 2026. She was born on April 22, 1943 to the late Al Burtus and Ruby Chappell.
Verna was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who cherished her family deeply. She was a faithful member of New Home #1 Missionary Baptist Church, where she found strength and comfort in her faith. Verna enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved working circle word searches, spending time with her chickens, and most of all, she treasured her great-grandbabies, who brought her endless joy.
She is survived by her children, Veranda Wells and Vanessia Lancaster; sister, Nadine Lybrand; grandchildren, Brianna (Samuel) Patterson, Carrie Wells, John (Meagen) Cardy; great-grandchildren, Addison, Jack, James, and Christopher; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Verbon Lancaster; her daughter, Veraina Lancaster; and her son-in-law, Allen Wells; granddaughter, Shelby Grace Lancaster.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in the Chapel of Adams Brown Service Funeral Home, with Bro. Matthew Fallin, Bro. Jeff Logan, and Bro. Danny Collins officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Samuel Patterson, John Cardy, Donnie Anthony, Stanley Kent, Robbie Mitchell, and Keith Fallin.
