Vergie A. Sawyer, age 95 of Estill Springs, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Vanderbilt-Harton Hospital in Tullahoma. She was born in Moore County on October 16, 1927, to the late Harvey and Dora (Woosley) Smith. Before her retirement, Vergie worked in the health care industry in medical records. Her vibrant personality allowed her to connect well with others, and she enjoyed spending time with her friends. She enjoyed cooking, and cherished the time spent with her beloved family. Vergie was a devoted member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Billy E. Sawyer; four siblings; and son-in-law, Phillip G. Ingleburger. Vergie is survived by her loving daughter, Kay Ingleburger of Estill Springs; grandchildren, Phillip G. “Bubba” (Dana) Ingleburger of Winchester, and Chad (Reneé) Ingleburger of Estill Springs; great-grandchildren, Anna (Forrest) Duncan of Winchester, Kyle (Kaitlyn) Ingleburger of Tullahoma, Ethan (Tailor) Shores of Flintville, and Holli Shores of Winchester; and great-great-grandchildren, Woodson Shores, Hyland Shores, and one on the way, Henry Duncan. Visitation will be from 12-2pm on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev. John Gipson and Rev. Randy Alexander officiating. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church or your home congregation.
