Venson Verdell Baker

Funeral services for Mr. Venson Verdell Baker, age 86, will be held at 1 pm Friday, August 13, 2021 at the Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with with long-time family friend, Rev. Paul Ray Cagle ; former pastor, Rev. Philip Norris; and present pastor, Rev. Seth Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in Gibson County Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 11 am until service time on Friday.

Mr. Baker was born January 10, 1935 in Sugar Tree, TN. He was the first of 10 children born to Raymond and Lois Smith Baker. After a few years the family moved to Gibson County where he met the love of his life.

Mr. Baker and Ms. Martha L. Hill of Humboldt, TN were married in Corinth, MS on December 18, 1952. He was a carpenter by trade and always believed anything worth doing was worth doing right. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church, Intl. He loved church and in earlier years, he would play the guitar and sing hymns during worship service. He also loved his family and spending time with them.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lois Baker; a brother, Everett Baker; a sister, Dorothy Cavaness; and his beloved wife of 60 years, Martha Baker.

Mr. Baker leaves behind 2 daughters, Debra (James) Brown of Trenton, TN, and Donna Sergerson of Union City, TN; 3 grandchildren, Dana Brown (BJ) Rouse of Atoka, TN, Stephanie Brown Heaton of Russellville, AR, and Candice Sergerson (Will) Pierce of Dyersburg, TN; 5 great grandchildren, Paige Brown (Justin) Lewis of Memphis, TN, Pierce Heaton of Russellville, AR, Alyssa Rouse, Chloe Rouse, and Elana Rouse of Atoka, TN, and one on the way, Baby Pierce; a great-great grandchild, Kylie Lewis of Memphis, TN and one on the way, Baby Heaton; and 7 siblings, Christine Bell of Dyer, TN, Fay (Ken) Hinson of Palatine, IL, Katherine (Ted) Collinson of San Jose, CA, Esther (Linard) Richardson of Trenton, TN, Rachel (Jim) Proudfit of Humboldt, TN, Brenda (Larry) Conway of Milan, TN, and Gail Baker of Henderson, TN.
