Velton Ezra Chafin Ezra Chafin, age 97, departed this Earth on June 18, 2020 at 4:00 pm to his heavenly home so bright and fair. He was greeted by our God and Savior and his loving wife of 70 years. Toots. Velton is now singing with all his Sacred Harp friends and relatives that had gone on before. He was a servant of Jesus and is now happy and at peace. We miss you Daddy. Velton was a WWII Veteran who served in European Theater where he received a Good Conduct Medal, European, African, Middle Eastern Medal, Silver Star, Bronze Arrowhead, Bronze Star, and Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a self-employed salesman who traveled for many years through Northwest Alabama and enjoyed selling, meeting friends, and visiting. He was a lover of Sacred Harp music and singers. He was a loving spouse and family man. Velton was a faithful member of Liberty McCormack Primitive Baptist Church. He will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie “Toots” Chafin; parents, Marion and Annie Roberts Chafin; sister, Tressie Adkins; brother Marlin Chafin and sister Lee Dorothy Andrews. Velton is survived by his daughter, Brenda Chafin; son Anthony Chafin; grandchildren; Jon Chafin (Renee), Talitha Chafin, Alexa Chafin, Zannah Sanford, Hanna Sanford; sister, Ozella Chafin Blackman and his loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 pm, Sunday, June 21, 2020 at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Monday, June 22, 2020 at Liberty McCormack Primitive Baptist Church. Sacred Harp Singing from 1:00-2:00pm and service beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in McCormack Cemetery.
