Velma V. Gettel of Bethel Springs, TN was born April 10, 1926 in McNairy County the daughter of the late Lee Roy Smith and Lora Lutrell Smith. She was united in marriage to Loren Gettel on August 16, 1974. Mr. Gettel preceded her in death on March 29, 1999.
Mrs. Gettel attended Little Chapel Pentecostal Church in Selmer. She was retired from General Electric in Selmer and was a homemaker. She enjoyed being with her family, gardening, flowers, and quilting. Mrs. Gettel departed this life on February 8, 2018 in her home at the age of 91 Years, 9 Months, 29 Days.
She is survived by two daughters, Edith Martin and husband George of Morris Chapel, TN, Doris Hamilton of Bethel Springs, TN; a son, James Plunk and wife Diana of Big Sandy, TN; two sisters, Bessie Williams and Lorene Henry; a brother, Kenneth Smith; 17 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gettel was preceded in death by three sons, Buford Plunk, Neal Plunk, Max Plunk; two sisters, Inez Smith, Rachel Joyner; five brothers, Elbert Smith, R L Smith, Robert David Smith, Tommy Smith, James Arthur Smith. She was also preceded in death by a grandchild.
