Velma Lee Clay, 56, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022 at North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo after a lingering illness. Velma was born in Greenville, MS. on Aug. 30, 1965 to the late Lee Wren Clay, Jr. and Minnie Lee Wise Clay, who survives.  A Baptist,  Velma made a profession of faith in Christ at an early age and lived a life devoted to the gospel all her life.  She moved to Las Vegas in her 20’s and lived there much of her adult life where she was employed as a Culinary association at the Las Vegas Airport.  She returned to Greenville in 2007 as her health began to fail and relocated to Tupelo in 2012, where she lived the remainder of her life.  Velma had a sterling personality, enjoyed laughter and merriment and enjoyed and revered her family deeply. She enjoyed sewing, singing and playing the piano.

A homegoing celebration of her life will be held at 1 PM Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with her brother in law, Pastor Larry Kendrick of Omaha, Neb. officiating. Private burial will follow in Porter Memorial Gardens in Tupelo.  Visitation will be from 5 PM-7PM Friday evening at Holland and, again at Noon-service time on Saturday.  For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at www.hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Livestreaming.  Please wear a mask!

Velma is survived by her mother, Minnie Clay of Tupelo; a son, Anthony D. Edmond (Irenna) of Las Vegas; two brothers, Jerry Clay (Paulette) of Las Vegas and Terry Clay (Jennifer) of Tupelo; two sisters, Jessie Clay Kendrick (Larry) of Omaha;   and Teresa Clay Pulliam (Steven) of Tupelo; a bonus sister, Cassandra Crooms of Las Vegas; two half sisters, Mattie Caroly Peterson and Dorothy Diane Wrein both of Ladue, Mo;  two aunts, Lovie Sanders of Las Vegas and Lucille Washington of Greenville; two uncles, Paul Wise of Las Vegas and J. W. Jenkins (Lorraine) of Dallas, Tx.; one grandson, Ashton Carter Edmond and a host of extended family including 9 nieces, 9 nephews, cousins and countless friends.
