Velma Hodges Marks 78, of Decatur passed away Sunday June 2, 2019 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Mrs. Marks was born in Decatur on June 27, 1940 to William and Maudie McMasters Hodges. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother; she loved all of her family and was an avid gardener. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Edward Marks; two sons, Rickey Edward Marks and Vancel Edward “Paka” Marks; also a brother William “Buddy” Hodges. She is survived by two sons Jammie Dreanion Marks (Sandra) and James Bunyan Marks (Alison); daughter-in-law, Lori Marks; brothers, Don Hodges (Lynn) and Billy Hodges (Pam); a sister, Becky Craft (Brent); grandchildren, Jessica Leigh Stevens (Jason), Brittney Marks, Jack Marks, Taylor Marks, Megan Rice, Sam Marks, Carly Pike (Kyle), Alec Marks and Harrison Marks also two great grandchildren, Riley Grace Pike and Makalee Williams; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday June 5, 2019 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home, a Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:00pm at Hartselle Heritage. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur. Pallbearers will be Jack Marks, Taylor Marks, Sam Marks, Alec Marks, Harrison Marks and Will Hodges. Honorary Pallbearers will by Kyle Pike, Patrick Rasco, Jason Stevens, David Steinberg and Larry Patterson. The family would like to offer a special thanks to her caregivers, Hilda, Larry, Linda, Dr. Gladish and Angie. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to The National Kidney Foundation, the American Heart Association or your favorite charity in Mrs. Marks name. Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family.
