Varnell Jeanette Brooks, age 79, of Russellville, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Helen Keller Hospital. She was born on September 23, 1946, to Avo and Varnes Humphries. Varnell was a very caring person who always enjoyed having company and spending time with those she loved. She had a passion for gardening and loved being outdoors. In her later years, she especially enjoyed watching her favorite black-and-white television shows. A service to honor and celebrate the life of Varnell will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Akins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery in the East Franklin Community. Varnell is survived by her daughters, Pat (Jerry) Trapp and Pam Parker; her son, Adam (Alma) Brooks; two grandsons; three granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Mansell; her brother, Hoyt (Jean) Humphries; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Brooks; her parents, Avo and Varnes Hacker Humphries; and all others who went before her.
