Vance Bonds Hester, age 72, passed away at his home on Friday, February 1, 2019, after an extended illness. He was a longtime resident of Phil Campbell, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Hester and Mary E. Richardson; his brother, William Cecil Hester; and his sister, Carol Hester Dickinson.
Vance is survived by his wife, Ronda Hester; children, Ryan Hester (Charity) and Devon Hester; and grandchildren, Addison, Memoree, Chloe, Blake, and Camden. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Poulin; and brother, Jimmy Richardson (Sheila); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, Phil Campbell, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He also served as a Gideon in Franklin County. In addition, he was a member of the United States Army and a Vietnam War veteran.
Visitation was Saturday, February 2, from 5-8 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church, Phil Campbell. Today, February 3rd, his body will lie in state from 1:30-3 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church and the funeral will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Sammy Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
The following will serve as pallbearers, Jonathan Jones, Darryl Keeton, Larry Pace, Archie Persall, Kendall Trapp, and Jimmy Pierce.
The family extends special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, the church family, and community for their prayers, encouragement, and food during his extended illness and recent passing.
