Graveside Funeral service and Interment for Valera McDonald Marsh, 97, will be Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Blountsville Methodist Cemetery in Blountsville, AL with Bro. Bobby Smith officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.
Mrs. Marsh died on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at her residence. She was born August 8, 1919, in Marion County to Robert Marshall McDonald and Onnie Lee Otts McDonald.
Valera grew up in Birmingham and began working in Montgomery where she met and married William O. Marsh. William was beginning his military career. The family moved many times including to Maine, Newfoundland, Canada, California, Georgia, Oslo Norway, and Montgomery. She continued her love of books and education to graduate from college in 1971 at the age of 52. She moved to Hartselle seven years ago to be near her oldest son. She enjoyed her love of Christ, travel, knowledge, and her family. She worked as a secretary for the Military Advisory Assistance group in Oslo, Norway while there. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
