ATHENS-Those fighting cancer and their caregivers will receive Valentine goodies thanks to the City of Athens Relay for Life Team, Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission and Friendship United Methodist Church’s knitting ministry.
The groups are donating candy, snacks, puzzle books, pens, pencils, lotions, lip balm, boxed drinks, scarves and shawls to make Valentine care baskets for Southern Cancer Center- Huntsville and Clearview Cancer Institute in Huntsville and Athens. The Youth Commission also made Valentine cards to display at the centers for staff, patients and caregivers.
In addition, the group is making a Valentine basket for Athens-Limestone Hospital in appreciation of the staff’s work, especially during COVID.
American Cancer Society representative Cherry Hammonds is helping deliver the baskets that are going out in the next week.
