FLORENCE – Today, Leo and Una, the costumed student mascots from the University of

North Alabama, have taken up residence in the offices of the Colbert and Lauderdale License Commissioners, reminding motorists to consider organ donation as they renew their vehicle registrations and update their drivers’ licenses.

“The University of North Alabama is honored to support Legacy of Hope by being part of the ‘Choose Your Team’ initiative,” said Kevin Haslam, Vice President of Advancement. “We view it as another opportunity to serve our neighbors in the Shoals and, perhaps, save a life by helping educate them about organ donations.”

Leo and Una are part of the Legacy of Hope campaign to raise awareness for organ donation. The two are holding their own drivers’ licenses that indicate that they have made the decision to be organ donors.

Ann Rayburn, the Director of Education at Legacy of Hope, said, “We are excited to welcome UNA, along with Leo and Una, to our ‘Choose Your Team’ initiative. It is a relatable way for motorists to learn more about organ, eye, and tissue donation and remember their home team at the same time.”

Motorists can expect to see the Leo and Una standees in the lobby spaces of the Colbert and Lauderdale County License Commissioners offices.

“Our four-year university should be represented in Colbert County, especially when UNA has its roots in Colbert on LaGrange Mountain,” said Colbert County Probate Judge Daniel Rosser. “As an alum, I am proud to welcome our mascots and UNA’s purple and gold, especially as we transition to a Division I institution.”
