University of North Alabama and City of Florence Work to Engage Public About Child Abuse Awareness Month

 Image result for Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness MonthFLORENCE – The University of North Alabama Office of Title IX and One Place of the Shoals Sexual Assault Division are working to get the word out about Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness Month.

The two groups have been working with the City of Florence for a proposed addition to the Florence City Council upcoming meeting agenda.

Under the new proclamation, April would officially be designated as “Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month” for both the City of Florence and the UNA campus.

The numbers related to sexual assault and child abuse are staggering; national statistics show one in 5 women and one in 71 men will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lives.  Additionally, children are most at risk for sexual assault with one in 6 boys and one in 4 girls being assaulted before age 18.
