UNA’s Fall Commencement to Feature Singer-Songwriter Patterson Hood

FLORENCE– Patterson Hood, best known as the front man, singer, songwriter and guitar player for the critically acclaimed rock-and-roll band Drive-By Truckers, will be the featured speaker at the University of North Alabama fall graduation ceremonies.  UNA will host two commencement ceremonies Saturday, December 12, at 10 a.m., and 2 p.m., in Flowers Hall.  Hood will speak at both events.

Born and raised in Florence, Hood is also a writer of essays, columns and short stories.  His band, Drive-By Truckers, has released 12 albums and played more than 2,000 shows in the past 19 years. They also recently released a 35-song, career spanning box set earlier this year that was recorded live at The Fillmore in San Francisco.

Hood is also familiar with public speaking having spoken or conducted classes at Princeton, The University of Indiana, The University of Georgia, and The University of Alabama.

Hood attended the University of North Alabama before he moved to Athens, Georgia, where he lived for 21 years until earlier this year when he relocated with his family to Portland, Oregon.
