FLORENCE – On Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m., the four-time Grammy winning ensemble, Eighth Blackbird performs at Norton Auditorium in a free concert.

Over the course of more than two decades, Eighth Blackbird has continually pushed the edges of what it means to be a contemporary chamber ensemble, presenting their unique programs nationally and internationally, reaching audiences totaling tens of thousands.

Department of Music Chair, Dr. Meghan Merciers explained that they invited the renowned group to perform at UNA because they are one of the most outstanding ensembles in their field, and their programs always include works that are thought provoking and engaging to a diverse audience.

Co-director of the UNA Contemporary Ensemble and Percussion Area Coordinator, Dr. Tracy Wiggins added, “The Shoals area is known for world class performances and recordings coming out of the region. Starting to bring in groups like Eighth Blackbird continues a tradition that is deeply enriched in the history here, but at the same time starts to widen that reach into other styles of music,”
