Two Tractor Trailers Collide Resulting In Fire On North-Bound I65 Near Athens

ATHENS-On Thursday, November 20, 2025, at approximately 8:30 pm, officers from the Athens Police Department responded to the crash of two tractor trailers on I65 North-bound.  This happened approximately one mile North of the Huntsville-Brownsferry Road exit.

Officers were assisted by members of the Athens Fire & Rescue, Tanner Fire, and Athens-Limestone Ambulance.  The two vehicles had made contact resulting with one eighteen wheeler coming to rest in the center median.  This vehicle’s diesel tanks ruptured and started a fire that was quickly extinguished by the firefighters.  The driver of this unit was taken to the hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The other rig remained on the roadway in the slow lane of I65 North.  This driver was not injured.
