ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement concerning the robbery of two young men on Friday evening, February 24:
“Shortly before midnight Friday night two teenagers one 17 and the other 18 years old were robbed near the intersection of Hines Street and Brownsferry Street. The two victims stopped at the Vulcan gas station at Hwy 72 and Hines Street to get a drink when an old friend asks one of them for a ride. They agreed and gave him a ride. They went north on Hines Street. They stopped near the intersection of Hines Street and Brownsferry Street. Then Lee Morris Hisbon Jr. pulled a pistol and demanded all of their money. After Hisbon got out of the car the two victims drove to Athens Limestone Hospital’s parking lot and called the police.
A short time later Lt. Dusty Meadows and Sgt. Brandon Turner located Hisbon on York Lane at a friend’s residence. Investigator Kelly Fussell investigated the case and charged Hisbon with robbery first degree. Hisbon was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail. There were no injuries in this case.”
