HARTSELLE-The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department’s Drug Task force along with the Hartselle Police arrested two suspects with Unlawful Manufacture of a Controlled substance 1st degree along with other charges. Here is what Morgan County Sheriff describe the events leading up to the arrests:
Wednesday, January 28th, 2015, Morgan County Drug Task Force Agents, along with Hartselle Police, conducted a welfare check on two juveniles at 1219 E. Main St. Lot 2 Hartselle. Agents had received information from “See Meth, Stop Meth” that Anthony Smith, 40, and Shawna Smith, 39, were cooking and using meth in front of their kids. Agents made contact with the subjects and observed meth making paraphernalia in view. Agents secured a search warrant signed by
Judge Jennifer Howell. Agents conducted a search of the residence and located acid, salt, cold packs, lithium batteries, liquid meth, several boxes of pseudoephedrine, and drug paraphernalia. A 17 year-old and her 10-month old child were present while meth was cooked in the home.”
Agents charged Anthony Smith and Shawna Smith with Unlawful Manufacture of a Controlled Substance 1st, Drug Endangerment of a Child, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Morgan County DHR was called and placed both kids in a safety plan and removed them from the home.
Hartselle Fire and Rescue was called to decontaminate the adults and Rock Creek VFD was called to decontaminate the children using a special decon trailer. The investigation is ongoing.
