ATHENS-Athens has a couple of events coming up this Saturday that would be both fun and educational.  These events are family friendly and should be a fun way to spend your Saturday:
Athens-Limestone Community Association and Trinity Congregational Church will honor the founder of Trinity School and the church, Mary Fletcher Wells, on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. She founded the school after the Civil War to teach emancipated slaves how to read and write. The school evolved to become the only all-black high school in Limestone County and operated until integration in 1970. There will be a ceremony, monument unveiling and reception. Members of the Wells family will be here.
Athens City Public Works employee Todd Stovall held the first SummerFest last year to benefit Hospice of Limestone County. This year, the concert on The Square will benefit Make A Way Foundation and its collaboration with the City for a special needs ballfield at Swan Creek Park. There will be bands and food trucks. The concert starts at 5:30 p.m.
