ATHENS-The Athens Police Department responded to two calls earlier today resulting in two arrests. Here is how Chief Floyd Johnson describes the arrests:
“This morning shortly before 03:30 the police department received a call from Athens Limestone Hospital reporting an assault.
When our officer arrived at the hospital the victim told him she was sleeping when her husband Tiemeryer Jerome Tanner hit her with a flashlight. She then told the officer he strangled her and he tied her hands behind her back. She said later he pulled a pistol and held her and her 13 year old daughter at gunpoint and would not let them go. She said he also touched her daughter in inappropriate places. She told officers he eventually released her and her daughter, after about an hour and a half to go to the emergency room.
She said thought Tanner left the residence and went to his mother’s residence in Huntsville. We contacted Huntsville Police Department and they were able to locate Tanner this morning.
Investigators went to Huntsville and brought Tanner back to Athens. After an interview Tanner was charged with 2 counts of Domestic Violence by Strangulation, 2 counts of Domestic Violence 3rd degree Menacing, 2 counts of Kidnapping 2nd degree and one count of Sexual Abuse. Tanner was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.
This crime took place in the 12000 block of Sommers Road. The victim was treated and released from the emergency room. The investigation into this case continues at this time. Due to the nature of this case this is all the information I can release while this case is still under investigation. I wish to thank the Huntsville Police Department for their help in this case.
was arrested yesterday on a warrant for Theft of Property 2nd degree. Our office received a complaint from Redstone Federal Credit Union saying in November of 2014 McCurley deposited several checks on closed accounts.
Shortly after the checks were deposited McCurley would make a withdrawal from the account. In total there were 4 checks deposited and 1390.00 cash withdrawn from the account.
McCurley was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
