Two Arrested On Drug Charges

DECATUR-Investigation of drug complaints to the Decatur Police Department result in the arrest of two persons.  Here is how the Decatur Police describe the events leading to the arrests:

“SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
On February 3, 2015 members of the Decatur Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit were patroling the area of East Acres Housing in southeast Decatur. Investigators had received citizen complaints recently of drug activity in the area. Investigators observed a vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign located at the intersection of Locust Street and 16th Avenue southeast.
Investigators activated their emergency lights and siren signaling the vehicle to pull over. The driver of the vehicle began to rapidly accelerate in attempt to elude the investigators. A vehicle pursuit ensued through an alley in the area at a high rate of speed. After a brief vehicle pursuit, investigators made contact with the driver and passenger of the vehicle. The driver was identified as Maurice Summerville. The passenger was identified as Alexandra Box.

Summerville began resisting officers and refused to comply with the officer’s commands. After a brief struggle Summerville complied and was placed under arrest for Attempting to Flee or Elude a Police Officer, Failing to stop at a Stop Sign, and Resisting Arrest. After further investigation, a quantity of Synethetic Cannabinoids (Spice) were located.Summerville and Box were both charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
A quantity of U.S. currency was located on Summerville’s person that was consistent with drug sales. The U.S. currency and Summerville’s vehicle were seized pending condemnation proceedings.
Summerville and Box were transported to the Decatur City Jail.
Summerville was placed under arrest for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Attempt to Flee or Elude a Police Officer, Stop Sign violation, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Resisting Arrest. Summerville is currently out on bond for other pending charges. An attempt will be made to have his bonds revoked.
Box was placed under arrest for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with Physical Evidence. Box was later transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $3,000.00 bond.”
