SODDY DAISY, TN-On Thursday, June 27 TVA held a tour at their Sequoyah Nuclear Plant to showcase measures TVA has taken to prepare its generating units to provide clean, reliable power this summer.

Quad Cities Daily was on hand to take this tour and learn more about how TVA is preparing for the warm summer months.

To prepare for summer, TVA has completed 75 major seasonal readiness reviews and actions to ensure generating assets are prepared to meet the weather conditions they are designed to meet. This includes checking oil coolers and heat exchangers; ensuring the readiness of heat removal equipment; analyzing and addressing marine growth on key components; and making sure our employees are prepared to work safely in the summer heat.

To meet the region’s growth, TVA is building more than 3,800 megawatts of additional generation that includes solar, energy storage, combustion turbines and combined-cycle natural gas. We are making good progress completing 1,400 megawatts and secured about 800 megawatts of new solar. In total, TVA has more than 4,000 megawatts of solar energy either in service or under construction.

Between 2023 and 2027, we are investing $2.8 billion in transmission system improvements, to deliver clean energy to millions of homes and businesses across seven-states.

Colbert Combined Cycle, TVA’s newest $500 million gas plant’s three units add about 750 megawatts of modern new natural gas generation capacity to TVA’s generation fleet – enough dispatchable electricity to power over 400,000 homes.
