TENNESSEE VALLEY-TVA celebrated Lineworker Appreciation Day on Thursday, April 18.   TVA lineworkers play a vital role in maintaining more than 16,000 miles of transmission lines across the Tennessee Valley region. Many of them build trust and friendships & develop their specialized skills at our training facility in Hollywood, Alabama. You can get more information in this newsroom article on tva.com and on TVA’s social media platforms.

In the last round of hiring, TVA attracted 500 candidates to the lineworker apprentice fleet and more will be needed in the future. To support this growing need in the workforce, our ongoing partnership with Huntsville Utilities provides $100,000 in scholarship funding to train and educate utility lineworkers at Calhoun Community College’s Pre-Apprentice Lineworker Program. For members of our community who might consider this kind of vocational training,  you are encouraged  to register for the summer course and apply for the scholarship.

TVA’s region is growing 3 times faster than the national average. The University of Tennessee Baker Center just completed a study in February that suggests the region’s population will grow by 22% by 2050. Moving forward, TVA is investing about $15B in additional capital expenditures over the next three years alone to keep up with demand. This is in addition to the nearly $3 billion in transmission system improvements through 2027.
